So check with the people there if you want to change it.

I wrote the original version of that page back on Orain, and honestly the license change was not a major reason for the fork. Rather the inverse -- the impending fork was a major reason for the license change. This is mentioned on allthetropes.org in the Copyrights page in the footer of every page -- not sure how to make it more visible without annoying people.Brent Laabshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17518100165641296059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1163079349106481731.post-3139743200612402322020-08-30T17:48:05.021-07:002020-08-30T17:48:05.021-07:00Whether or not you send a takedown notice to TVTro...Whether or not you send a takedown notice to TVTropes, I strongly recommend that you put a bit more detail about this on the AllTheTropes page about why you forked TVTropes. Because without it, and without knowing about TVTropes' illegal licence change, my first impression on reading that page was that AllTheTropes was the one to commit a licence breach, by forking under a licence that allows commercial use. I think https://allthetropes.fandom.com/wiki/All_The_Tropes:Why_Fork_TV_Tropes needs to mention that one of the reasons for the fork is that TVTropes *changed* their licence.Carlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16116368908095136183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1163079349106481731.post-10267460666592238352018-09-15T23:28:08.559-07:002018-09-15T23:28:08.559-07:00I never changed the post, but I fixed it anyway by...I never changed the post, but I fixed it anyway by buying orain.org and giving the domain to miraheze. They can publish work based on stories you write about on TV Tropes (because the license is unrestricted), but can no longer keep you from writing about your own work or claim all profits thereof. Basically the same as releasing it into the public domain, except that TV Tropes is the only beneficiary.

Of course the original work by those of us who left is still licensed under CC-BY-SA, despite what subsequent people agreed to. And any changes thereof. So there are quite a few distributions being made today that are still copyright infringement. It's definitely better now, because people are informed of their rights.Brent Laabshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17518100165641296059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1163079349106481731.post-15775191068789605242016-02-13T13:58:42.838-08:002016-02-13T13:58:42.838-08:00Today I checked the history of "Welcome to TV...Today I checked the history of "Welcome to TV Tropes" and found that since March 24, 2015, TV Tropes no longer claims exclusive ownership over submissions but instead an unrestricted nonexclusive license.Damian Yerrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06076695552538897484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1163079349106481731.post-7383603913388244862014-08-02T08:04:40.389-07:002014-08-02T08:04:40.389-07:00The way I see it, if you don't send the DMCA, ...The way I see it, if you don't send the DMCA, the downward spiral will only continue. When it was pointed out to them that wiping the page history was wiping the attribution for content (particularly problematic in cases of content originally taken from other sources), they didn't care and tried to just 'unlicense' everything by removing the BY-SA notice on every page.

They backed down after it being pointed out that doing so was *illegal*, but I guess they didn't care this time around.Borhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16999846108973581289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1163079349106481731.post-50913505714578517212014-05-15T07:00:20.209-07:002014-05-15T07:00:20.209-07:00Send them the takedown.
